Located at the end of a scenic coastal road just below the village, Mulranny Pier is a favourite spot for visiting anglers, kayakers, and boaters exploring the 365 islands of Clew Bay.
Shore & Pier Angling
The pier provides easy, accessible fishing straight into deep water at mid-to-high tide. During summer months (July through September), shoals of Mackerel move into the bay, making spinning or feathers from the pier head ideal for families and casual anglers.
Mulranny Pier Features & Activities
- Pier Fishing: Excellent catches of Pollack, Mackerel, Wrasse, and Flounder.
- Bottom Fishing from Shore: Sandbanks produce Thornback Ray, Dogfish, and Flatfish using crab or lugworm bait.
- Boat Launching Slipway: Public concrete slipway suitable for small outboard motorboats, kayaks, and RIBs.
- Clew Bay Sea Angling Charters: Deep-sea charter boats operate locally from Newport and Westport out to Clare Island.
Slipway & Boating Advice
The concrete slipway at Mulranny Pier allows boaters to launch directly into Clew Bay. Boaters should note that inner Trawoughter Bay is shallow at low tide; launching is best done 2 hours before to 2 hours after high tide.
